What information do I need for proper referencing?

  • An acknowledgement within the body of your essay would include the name of the author, the date of publication and the page numbers, eg Anderson (1987:73-74)

  • You need to know which referencing style you are following so that you give the elements in the correct order and use the correct punctuation within and between the elements.

  • At this point - known as "in-text referencing" - you are giving the reader only the author(s), date of publication and page references of the source. He/she will find the full details in your bibliography.
