Place of publication

  • This is the town or city of publication, and not the country, province, state or county.
  • If a whole list of names is given, choose the first on the list.
  • In the case of cities in the U.S.A., it is customary to include the name of the state (abbreviated).icherefor a list of the abbreviations

Johannesburg
London
Princeton, N.J.
Boston, Mass.
Chicago, Ill.

  • The place of publication and the name of the publisher are separated from each other by a colon.
  • If you are unable to locate the place of publication (fairly unlikely), use the abbreviation s.l. (sine loco). [Italics in the Harvard method].
