Glossary of Internet terms

URL (uniform resource locator) Internet (World Wide Web) "address" of a resource / page / web site.
Web page A web document -- the page content that displays on the screen, in the browser's window.
Web site Set of connected (linked) web pages that, as a whole, serve a specific set of purposes.
Link/s Reference / jump point to a different web site or another page on a site -- left-click on it to jump to that page (it will be underlined or printed in another color).
Homepage Opening or welcoming page of a web site. Usually includes some introduction and indexing, as well as the links to the rest of the site (i.e. the other pages)
HTML (hypertext markup language) All web pages are coded in this markup language so that Web browsers know how to display them
Web browser Software that "fetches" pages from Web sites anywhere in the world and that then displays the pages on your PC. Popular browsers are Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer
